TV cults are in full swing these days, and Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch leads one of their most infamous in a new trailer. Journey to Waco, as a first trailer for the six-part Paramount series introduces us to a star-studded cast of Kitsch, Michael Shannon, Melissa Benoist and more.

Having previously released a few images of Kitsch as cult leader David Koresh, Paramount followed through with a full trailer for the six-part miniseries, which follows the 1993 Texas standoff between agents of the FBI and ATF against Koresh’s Branch Davidians. The January 2018 series also features among its cast Michael Shannon, John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Rory Culkin, Melissa Benoist, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim and Julia Garner.

Here’s the full synopsis:

In February, 1993, the eyes of the world converged on Mount Carmel, a small religious community located just outside Waco, TX. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) had just conducted a massive raid on David Koresh and his followers, known as the Branch Davidians. After what became the longest gun battle in U.S. law enforcement history, four ATF agents and six civilians were dead and dozens more were wounded. A 51-day standoff ensued, and the conflict ended after an FBI assault led to a fire that engulfed Mount Carmel, killing 76 men, women, and children.

The series is based on two biographies, including Branch Davidian survivor David Thibodeau’s A Place Called Waco and FBI Head of Crisis Negotiation Unit Gary Noesner’s Stalling for Time: My Life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator. Waco will premiere in January 2018 on The Paramount Network, so stay tuned for the latest.
