Country superstar Tim McGraw is an avid supporter of the U.S. military, and on each stop of the Brothers of the Sun Tour, he’s putting his money where his mouth is, working to give wounded soldiers a place to live through Operation Homefront.

The ‘Truck Yeah’ singer partnered with Chase Bank and ACM Lifting Lives for the program, which provides mortgage-free homes to military families in need.

“I just couldn’t think of a better program to be involved with,” McGraw says in a new interview. “When you’re talking about safety and security, I mean, what better thing to provide a wounded warrior than safety and security, a place to keep their family?”

The superstar also meets with wounded soldiers backstage at each date on the tour, which is a joint run with Kenny Chesney. He met Marine Sgt. Anthony Hodge at a concert in Anaheim, Calif. recently. Hodge was wounded in Iraq, and he says Operation Homefront has completely changed his life.

“I think having a house is the American Dream, and especially now, with today’s economy, it’s hard for anyone to get a house,” the Marine observes. “So for me to be blessed to receive a free home is just, it’s a dream come true.”

McGraw says it’s rewarding to see the soldiers get the help they deserve — a big reason why he does it. “The overwhelming thing that’s come out of it for me is getting these guys to realize that they deserve it. I think that being a soldier in general is a self-sacrificing endeavor, and you don’t think about yourself. You’re just doing it for your country, doing it for your family, doing it for security, doing it for all the right reasons,” the singer says, adding, “So it’s hard to accept something like that.”
