Thomas Rhett may already have an impressive country career under his belt, but the singer says he's far from finished exploring new horizons. For Season 15 of The Voiceshow judge and pop star Kelly Clarkson has tapped Rhett to serve as her Battle Rounds advisor, meaning he'll offer insight and guidance to her team members as they prepare to compete. However, Rhett admits that, at first, he was so blown away by Clarkson's skills as a singer and mentor that he wasn't sure she needed any coaching help from him.

"She just starts riffing to describe to somebody how she wants something to be sung, and then she looks at me and says, 'What do you think?' I'm like, 'You just said it perfectly,'" Rhett explains to The Boot and other outlets. "I don't even know how to add to that."

Despite the intimidation factor, the country star says he enjoyed his stint on The Voice's stage. "It was really cool to get in there with people who have so many different backgrounds," he continues. "I mean, there were people in there that had never played a show in their life. There were people in there that had been touring for 10 years. So you have to adapt your advice based on the story you knew from those people."

Regardless of background, Rhett adds that he was impressed by the confidence the contestants demonstrated. "If I was in their shoes, I would have been absolutely terrified to sing in front of Kelly Clarkson," he says, "and they got in there and just destroyed it."

Rhett has always loved being in front of a camera, no matter the format ("Even from a young age, my sister and I used to write out little skits, and my dad would film us acting out these scenes," he recalls). His appearance on The Voice isn't the first time he's dabbled in other aspects of performance besides music, either: Alongside Kelsea Ballerini, Rhett co-hosted the 2018 CMA Fest television special, and he has also made a guest appearance on actor Ashton Kutcher's Netflix series The Ranch.

"But acting, man, that is not a joke," he clarifies. "It's easy to go into a room and pretend you're somebody else in a song, but when you're trying to pretend like you're somebody else and act it, that is a whole different ball game."

However, that doesn't mean that Rhett isn't interested in trying his hand at a new format. "I would love to at least take some lessons and dive into it and see what the future holds," he adds.
