‘The Walking Dead’ Season 4: Norman Reedus Talks Revamped Zombie Threat, New Showrunner

Before ‘The Walking Dead‘ season 3 came to a close (and we knew whether or not the Governor would return), executive producer Gale Ann Hurd previewed that the AMC horror-drama’s fourth season would seek to amp up the threat of the ‘Walking Dead’ themselves, who had become manageable. With season 4 filming underway, what does series star Norman Reedus have to say about the new walkers threatening Daryl and the others?

Speaking on an Entertainment Weekly podcast, Reedus acknowledged that the walkers had definitely become a more dangerous threat in the episodes shot for season 4, saying, “They’ve introduced a way to make the zombies scary again. They’re terrifying. The new threat is just unreal.” Of course, with Rick and a host of others from Woodbury holed up at the prison after season 3 finale “Welcome to the Tombs,” it remains to be seen what exactly would amp up the walkers’ danger levels.

Moreover, Reedus admitted that the fourth season’s writing structure had changed somewhat in the wake of writer Scott Gimple taking over for the departed Glen Mazzara, but that the season had lost none of its pace. “It’s so intense,” says Reedus of the episodes already in production. “These are our best scripts so far.”

While we wait for season 4, the next run of ‘The Walking Dead’ will introduce ‘The Wire’’s Lawrence Gilliard Jr. as haunted Army medic Bob Stookey, while actors Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney have all been upgraded to series regulars. AMC earlier confirmed that David Morrissey’s villainous Governor would also return in season 4 as a series regular.

What say you? Are you excited to see walkers brought back as the main threat for ‘The Walking Dead’ season 4, or would you prefer to bring back the Governor right away? What are you most looking forward to from AMC’s monster hit?
