The death of Christina Grimmie was shocking and devastating for her fans, The Voice community and the world. The singer was shot and killed after a concert over the summer, and The Voice judges recently gave an incredible performance of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” in preparation for the 11th season, dedicating it in loving memory of Grimmie.

Grimmie came in third on the sixth season of the show.

The four judges — now including Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus, in addition to the show’s staples, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine — kicked off the tune in the middle of a packed-out intersection with only Keys at the piano. She began the verse with her soulful, but edgy vocals, giving it a new style that still reflected the spirit of the tune. Levine accompanied on guitar while Shelton joined in on the next section, showing off his true vocal chops. Soon Levine added his take on the second verse, his trademark falsetto meshing perfectly with the classic rock anthem.

Cyrus burst onto the scene for an explosive chorus, reminding everyone that yes, she can sing, and she doesn’t mess around. The four traded parts and exchanged harmonies for a mind-boggling performance seeping with talent, including Levine’s flawless take on Steven Tyler’s iconic chorus up an octave — nailing notes most people only dream of hitting.

Season 11 of 'The Voice' is the first to feature two female judges simultaneously, replacing Pharrell and Christina Aguilera. The ninth season brought former judge Gwen Stefani into Shelton’s life at a time when both parties were navigating high-profile divorces, which has since evolved into an unexpected romance. The couple have been very candid about their relationship, even writing songs together — they sing a duet they wrote, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” on Shelton’s most recent record If I’m Honest.
