The Abilene Zoo is hosting the the Texas Army National Guard's “Lone Star Band” and the event is called a “Salute to America.” Zoo Marketing Director Kelly Thompson says "the Abilene Zoological Society has declared the concert in honor of the area’s first responders like: volunteer firefighters, sheriffs’ deputies, city police and fire departments, emergency medical services and the military, but the event is open to everyone who wants to attend."

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, as always, burgers, hot dogs, snacks and beverages are available at zoo's concession stand 'The Watering Hole.' For more information contact the Abilene Zoo at 325-676-6085. The zoo is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. last admittance is 4:30 p.m. However, the zoo is open every Thursday until 9 p.m. during the summer. The Abilene Zoo is home to more than 900 animals from 250 species.
