As we all gather with friends and family to celebrate Memorial Day we sometimes forget the real meaning behind the holiday. Memorial Day is to reflect on those who gave their lives in the name of freedom and honor.

We celebrate Memorial Day on the last Monday of May. The day was first set aside to honor Union soldiers who had passed during the Civil War but would eventually cover all wars or 'military actions'. It was originally known as 'Decoration Day' but after World War II it would become known as Memorial Day.

Many think of the day as the kick off to summer with BBQ's, picnics, parties and more. While, this is great, we need to remember the true meaning of the holiday as one of honor for our fallen soldiers.

Those who HAVE served and ARE serving, especially our own Dyess AFB personnel.  THANK YOU! You are not forgotten and our prayers are with you.
