Haunted Houses, Kid Events and Other Halloween Fun in Abilene
With Halloween just around the corner, here are some events in Abilene that can cater to everyone, regardless of your age. We will be updating this list as we get more info, so be sure to keep checking back.
Haunted houses can be one of the coolest things to check out during Halloween - or the scariest. In the Abilene area, you'll usually be able to find several haunted houses to get your scare on.
The Runway of Terror
The Runway of Terror is located 4886 Newman Road in Abilene. The haunted house, put on by Destination Imagination, offers food and snacks and is open Friday and Saturday nights from October 9th through October 31st. For more info, follow the link below.
The House of Horrors
The House of Horrors is located at 100 Hunt Street in Clyde. It's open Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm from October 2nd through the rest of the month. Ages 5-10 will pay $5.00 per ticket, $10.00 per fast-pass. Ages 11+ will pay $10.00 per ticket, $20.00 per fast pass.
Put on by the Tye Volunteer Fire Department, The Haunted Hangar will be open this year on Oct 23rd and 24th, as well as 30th, 31st. You can check it out behind the Tye cemetery and the cost is $8 per person. More info in the link below.
The Abilene Preservation are back their annual Haunted Abilene event. Trolley rides, a creepy circus set up in the Swenson House, and a spooky laboratory will be featured this year. The trolleys begin leaving at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all three attractions will cost $20, tickets to tour the mansion are $10, and tickets for the trolley at $10.00. 13 Vultures Haunted Estates
This haunted house is located in Baird, Texas at 3615 I-20. It will be open every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 and will cost $10. For more information, check out their Facebook page by clicking the link below.
Frater Sodalis Present the Return of the Haunted Island
The Men of Frater Sodalis will allow the bravest of souls to cross the bridges over to their annual Haunted Island from 7:30 p.m. until midnight, October 27th through the 31st. The Haunted Island is once again at 401 N. Loop 322, which is located on Loop 322/Hwy 80 on the East side of the Loop. Admission is $10 a person. Children under the age of 8 will not be permitted entrance at the Haunted Island due to the level of terror that is being incorporated into this year’s production. Halloween Parties at Bars
Most, if not all, bars in Abilene have some sort of Halloween party and/or costume contests. Usually, you'll find that bars and clubs will do their party the weekend before, or the day of.
Monster Mash Bash at The Zone
The Monster Mash Bash is Friday, October 31st at The Zone Grill & Bar. Along with drink specials and live music, there will be hundreds of dollars in cash prizes in the costume contest. The cost is only $5 at the door. More details with the link below.

The Paramount Halloween Film
Each year, the historic Paramount Theater shows some sort of creepy movie for Halloween. This year, that movie will be "Beetlejuice". The movie will be shown October 31st at 7:30pm. Tickets are $6. For more information on the Paramount Theater or to order tickets online, check out the links below.
Fall Festival at the Mall
The annual family friendly event will have games, prizes, candy, and a costume contest. This year, the event will be on October 29th from 6pm - 8pm in front of the Women's Dillard's Courtyard in the Mall of Abilene.
• Pre-registration will begin promptly at 6pm at Women’s Dillard’s Courtyard.
• Costume Contest begins at 7pm for children ages 0-12.
• Children will be judged in age categories of (0-3), (4-7) and (8-12).
• Prizes will be awarded for First Place in each age division.
The Pumpkin Patch
The 'Pumpkin Patch', benefiting Disability Resources Inc. will run through the entire month of October. The fundraiser is held at DRI and is decorated with props, swings, hay bales and, of course, pumpkins. There is also a free hayride, tons of fun, and the best part, is being able to help out people with disabilities. Ranch House Fellowship Cowboy Church
Join them for a frightfully good time in Merkel on Halloween. There will be fun for all ages including games, costume contest, food and more. Check out the Ranch House Fellowship Cowboy Church at 1434 Wimberly Road in Merkel starting at 11am on October 31st.
Lytle South Baptist Church
Everybody is invited out to the Fall Festival at Lytle South Baptist Church on Saturday October 31st from 6-8pm. There will be lots of candy, food, music, games and more. Lytle South Baptist is at 1125 East Industrial Blvd.
Berry Lane Baptist Church
This church will host a 'trunk or treat' event on Wednesday, October 28th from 6-8pm at 1515 Lakeside Drive in Abilene. There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks, candy, fun, and fellowship.
Trinity Baptist Church
Fall Festival is happening at Trinity Baptist Church on Halloween night. Join in on the fun on October 31st from 6-8pm at 871 Woodlawn in Abilene. There will be games, train rides, jump houses, prizes, candy and a whole lot of fun for the entire family.
Several churches and other organizations will usually have "trick or treating" and other festivities. As we get more information from those groups, we'll continue to update this blog.

Boo at the Zoo
'Boo at the Zoo' happens on Saturday, October 24th at the Abilene Zoo. This year, the Halloween party kicks off at 10am and goes to 7pm. In addition to several trick or treat stops, there will be plenty of games, crafts and other Halloween fun. The cost is $5.00 for everyone over the age of 2.
