‘The Newsroom’ Season 2: Marcia Gay Harden Replaces Rosemarie DeWitt
Late last week we brought you the news from HBO’s second season of ‘The Newsroom,’ which unfortunately revealed that a scheduling conflict with ‘Mad Men‘ star Rosemarie DeWitt meant the actress had to bow out mid-shooting, and be replaced with another actress. Now, HBO has announced that TV vet Marcia Gay Harden will replace DeWitt in the role, but will it change anything about the second season of the Aaron Sorkin drama?
As the staff of HBO’s controversial Aaron Sorkin drama ‘The Newsroom’ would tell you, the news cycle never ends. Thus, while late last week ‘Mad Men’ star Rosemarie DeWitt had to bow out of a recurring role in the show’s second season, Entertainment Weekly reveals that ‘Damages’ and ‘Law & Order: SVU’ star Marcia Gay Harden will take over where DeWitt left off, even re-filming her scenes for the upcoming summer season.
Harden will play the role of Rebecca Halliday, a litigator hired to defend Atlantis Cable News in a multimillion-dollar wrongful-termination suit, appearing in multiple episodes.
Elsewhere, the second season of HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ features appearances by current ‘Justified‘ star Patton Oswalt as the fictional networks new Vice President of Human Resources, as well as Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer as a reporter embedded with the Mitt Romney campaign. Little else is known of the pay-cable drama’s second season, other than Sorkin’s intent to utilize a vast array of paid consultants for its source material, as opposed to the handful used during the first season.
