Saturday is the National Day of the American Cowboy (NDAC) and will be celebrated all over the Lone Star State. The closest place to Abilene holding a big celebration is the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Most all activities associated with the NDAC at the Fort Worth Stockyards will be free, with only a few exceptions.

The Hay stacking competition has a $25.00 entry free per team, with the winner getting $250.00 1st place prize money. The rib eating contest is $5.00 and that is just to offset the cost of the ribs. The free stuff far out numbers the paid stuff. There will be free pony rides, petting zoo, parade, cattle drives, watermelon eating, seed-spitting, best mustache, most worn-out boots and buckaroo coloring contests. There will also be a Cowboy Idol and gunfight shows. The world renowned Fort Worth Stockyards cattle drives take place at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The NDAC parade will be at 11:30 a.m. following the first cattle drive.

Join the fun in Fort Worth for the 5th Annual, National Day of The American Cowboy. Voted by American Cowboy Magazine, the best cowboy tribute event in the nation.
