The nunsploitation film seems to be making an odd comeback recently — with even Paul Verhoeven catching the fever and announcing his lesbian nun movie Blessed Virgin — and nothing looks more promising than The Little Hours, featuring a ton of comedy greats banding together to make a raunchy, hysterical version of Bocaccio’s The Decameron, replete with clergy members throwing around f-bombs and nuns throwing around turnips.

The nuns-gone-wild comedy stars Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, and Kate Micucci as three nuns living peacefully in a convent when the arrival of a hot young hired hand played by Dave Franco causes them to somewhat rethink their vows of celibacy. Our editor-in-chief Matt Singer reviewed the film at last year’s TIFF, and noted that while it was very funny, most of the funniest parts oddly didn’t involve the trio of nuns.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Medieval nuns Alessandra (Alison Brie), Fernanda (Aubrey Plaza), and Ginevra (Kate Micucci) lead a simple life in their convent. Their days are spent chafing at monastic routine, spying on one another, and berating the estate’s day laborer. After a particularly vicious insult session drives the peasant away, Father Tommasso (John C. Reilly) brings on new hired hand Massetto (Dave Franco), a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord. Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover as the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry.

The Little Hours hits theaters June 30.
