On June 2 AMC's rain-soaked, murder-mystery drama 'The Killing' will return for a third season, having been rescued from the cancellation heap under a joint deal between AMC and Netflix. The new episodes will open up some time after the close of the Rosie Larsen murder, but where has Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) been all this time? And what brings the detective out of retirement for 'The Killing' season 3? Find out the latest on the new season inside!

We're eager to take a look at new episodes of 'The Killing,' particularly given the series plans to move away from the Rosie Larsen murder that dominated the first two seasons. We know Linden and Holder will start the new season in very different places than we left them, but what could drag Linden back into such a dark and dreary world? According to a new video from TVGuide, a new case discovered by Holder has a deep connection to Linden's past, which brings the reluctant detective out from her self-imposed retirement.

‘The Killing’ season 3 understandably won’t involve the Larsen Family, nor will seasons 1 and 2 regular Mayor Darren Richmond (Billy Campbell) appear. Showrunner Veena Sud told us that the new case drew inspiration from real-life incidents, including photographer Mary Ellen Mark’s work depicting street youths in the 1970s, and the police investigation of Washington serial killer Gary Ridgway, which involved 50 women disappearing over a course of 20 years.

In addition to the casting of  Peter Sarsgaard as death row inmate Ray Seward, ‘The Killing’ season 3 also boasts ‘Battlestar Galactica’ vet Aaron Douglas, ‘Flashpoint’s’ Hugh Dillon, Johnny Ray Gill, Amy Semeitz, Max Fowler and Elias Koteas among its cast.

Take a look at the latest sneak peek of 'The Killing' season 3 below, and tell us in the comments if you'll check out the new season!
