The CW Picks Up ‘The Tomorrow People,’ ‘The 100,’ ‘Star-Crossed’ and ‘Reign’

What, you thought NBC would have all the fun today? As the networks announce all their major scheduling shakeups in advance of next week’s Upfronts, The CW has entered the mix by picking up two major new pilot offerings. Sci-fi dramas ‘The Tomorrow People‘ and ‘The 100′ will join ‘The Originals‘ among The CW’s new offerings, along with ‘Star-Crossed’ and ‘Reign,’ but what changes can viewers expect of the new series? It’s that time of year, and the TV news is breaking across the board. The CW had already renewed a number of series, among them ‘Supernatural,’ ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ ‘Arrow,’ Hart of Dixie’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast,‘ but now some new offerings are entering the mix. Sources report that both ‘The Tomorrow People, ‘The 100, ‘Star-Crossed’ and ‘Reign,” have been picked up to series, with more announcements potentially to follow.

Written / executive produced by Phil Klemmer, executive produced by ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ Julie Plec and ‘Arrow‘ EP Greg Berlanti and directed / executive produced by Danny Cannon, ‘The Tomorrow People’ is adapted from the cult British series of the same name and follows the titular group of superhumans as they pose a grave danger to the human race.

Elsewhere, famed ‘LOST’ button-pusher Henry Ian Cusick leads the cast of ‘The 100,’ a sci-fi drama set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. In it, the “Ark” space station housing human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to evaluate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet. Cusick will play Kane, an officer on board the Ark who has his sights set on the Chancellor’s job. The project is based on upcoming Alloy books by Kass Morgan.

Written by ‘CSI: Miami’s’ Laurie McCarthy and ‘Outlaw’s’ Stephanie SenGupta, ‘Reign’ is described as a hybrid of ‘Game of Thrones’ and the story of Marie Antoinette, following the historical account of of the teenage queen, while adding in a “secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces and a world of sexual intrigue.”

Finally, ‘Star-Crossed’ (formerly ‘Oxygen’) unfolds as an epic romance ignites between a human girl and an alien boy, when he and eight others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school a decade after they and hundreds of others landed on Earth, and were placed in internment camps. The series stars Aimee Teegarden (‘Friday Night Lights’) and Matt Lanter (’90210′), among others.
