The CW Cancels ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’…For Real, This Time

Emily Owens MD Cancelled
The CW

A few weeks ago, a number of outlets jumped the gun (or scalpel) when rumors broke that The CW had decided to pull the plug on its plucky freshman medical drama ‘Emily Owens, M.D.,’ though at the time it proved not to be true.  Sadly, even rumors may come to pass, as the the network has now officially confirmed the Mamie Gummer-starring series’ cancellation.  So with ‘Emily Owens’ officially dead on the table, what plans are in place for the remaining episodes of the series?

Sad, if repetitive news tonight for fans of The CW’s charming young medical drama ‘Emily Owens, M.D.,’ as The CW has officially passed on producing additional episodes of the series.  The show has only aired six episodes of its 13-episodes order, but the network has confirmed it will at least air the remaining seven over the coming weeks.

While debuting to 1.7 million viewers, a number somewhat hampered by the 2012 presidential debates, the young doctor drama struggled with ratings over the course of its run, even coming in below the reviled ‘Ringer’ in its Tuesday time slot.  So far, ‘Emily Owens’ is the only scripted cancellation of The CW’s fall offerings, having granted full seasons to both ‘Arrow‘ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’

Previously, The CW had granted additional script orders for the series and cast ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ alum D.B. Woodside for a multi-episode arc as Dr. Gina Bandari (Necar Zadegan)’s husband Evan.

Will you miss ‘Emily Owens, M.D.,’ now that the cancellation has been confirmed?  Leave your memorials in the comments!
