The sibling trio the Band Perry may be getting ready to hit the road once again for Brad Paisley‘s Virtual Reality Tour, but off the road they’re partnering with Paisley’s actress wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley to help in the fight against hunger.

Last week, the trio and actress made an appearance at a Tennessee Walmart to show their ongoing support for the giant new Fighting Hunger Together initiative, a collaboration between Walmart and General Mills, ConAgra, Kraft and Kellogg.

Fighting Hunger Together encourages people to purchase products from those brands in an effort to provide more than 42 million meals for the Feeding America and Action for Healthy Kids programs. In addition to helping provide these meals, fans of the cause are urged to go on Walmart’s Facebook page and vote for one of 200 American communities that was devastated by the economic dip.

The winning town will receive $1 million to help fight local hunger, and the top 2o runner-up towns will each get a $50,000 donation to do the same. This initiative comes as a result of Walmart’s 2010 five-year commitment to give $2 billion toward fighting hunger in the US.

The Band Perry and Kimberly Williams-Paisley aren’t the only two celebrities taking a big stand against hunger in America right now. Rascal Flatts and several of their Big Machine labelmates tweeted a video promotion last week for the initiative they’re partnering with that also includes General Mills and Feeding America. Encouraging their fans to help “outnumber hunger,” the trio pointed out some sobering statistics of hunger within the US.

“You know you take it for granted, those of us that every day wake up and we have a meal,” said Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney. “These people wake up and the first thing on their mind is they don’t have anything to eat. So it’s kind of shocking and staggering to really think about the reality of that, and yes one in six Americans struggles with hunger. But together we can all make a difference.”
