‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Spoilers: Jamie Foxx Reveals Electro’s Origins
While Jamie Foxx will soon hit the big screen in the title role of Quentin Tarantino’s latest, ‘Django Unchained,’ the world is still reeling from his next big casting (excuse the pun) shocker — he’ll be starring in Marc Webb’s upcoming ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘ as the villain Electro.
Comic book fans know some details about this character already, including his ability to wield electricity, but how close exactly is Webb planning on sticking with his story line from the comics? Fortunately, we don’t have think on it much, as Foxx has already revealed the origins of Spidey’s nemesis.
Jamie Foxx recently sat down with MTV to discuss ‘Django Unchained’ with his costar and on-screen wife Kerry Washington, during which time, of course, he was questioned about his upcoming role in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ Surprisingly though, he did not beat around the bush, but instead offered up some decent spoilery details about the origins of the villain Electro:
You’ll see that in his whole life, no one is talking to him. People have stolen his ideas at the big company. He’s a nobody.
At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, “You’re my guy. You’re my ears and eyes on the street.” And he says his name â no one has ever said [Max] Dillon’s name.
He sort of starts thinking that somehow, “I am Spider-Man’s partner.”
Unfortunately, what sets into motion a series of “tragic” events, which ultimately transform him into the comic book villain, is his mom forgetting his birthday. “When it turns on, he lights it up.”
Foxx also revealed some details about his character’s new suit! As Bryan Singer thought the yellow spandex of the comic book X-Men were not appropriate for the movies, so too did Webb imagine Electro’s costume. “Marc Webb and all of those guys, they’re smart. They know that it has to make sense in 2013, so the suit is really slick. It’s actually black. It’s a new age.” That means no green and yellow getup for Foxx!
