We all know the dangers of texting and driving, yet many still do it. There are those that  say “I only do it at stop lights” whatever the excuse is, the fact still remains texting and driving can have deadly results. Research has shown that high school and university students are more inclined to text while driving. That said, to better educate their students, Texas State Technical Institute has secured the Texas Reality Education for Drivers (RED) simulator. Students (or anyone for that matter) that would like to take the RED for a spin can, starting at 10:00 AM Wednesday at TSTC Abilene.

The simulator looks like a video game with several screens, steering wheel, shifter, pedals and all the sounds to give it a more realistic feel. The distraction will come from the simulator operators, who will put the participants to the task of texting and driving. One never knows what will pop out in front of you, and trust me, it’s a sick in your stomach feeling when the simulator tells you you just crashed and hurt somebody. If you’re up for an adrenaline rush head on over to the Abilene TSTC campus on Wednesday, February 20th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Breckenridge Campus will host the simulator on Thursday, February 21st, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

This video a Texas teen tries out the simulator.

In this video students are asked to make simple computations.
