The Texas wildfires that destroyed at least 1,500 homes and claimed two lives  in September did not go unnoticed by Texas country legends Willie Nelson, George Strait and others. The country super-stars raised over $500,000 for the victims of the Texas wildfires at a concert on Monday October 17th 2011. The concert was in Willies hometown of Austin Texas.

Nelson told the crowd that gathered for this special show that he knows first hand the devastation a wildfire has on those that lost their homes, Willie himself has lost personal property and a couple homes to wildfires.

Some of the other performers that showed up to support this cause were Christopher Cross, the Avett Brothers, the Dixie Chicks and Asleep at the Wheel who all took the stage at the University of Texas at Austin campus stage. Texas native Natalie Maines was excited taking part in the event, saying that when she got the phone call asking if they would do this show, there was no hesitation. You can count on this Texas girl to help out.

Willie said, "You never really get over it. There's nothing I can tell them to make it better except some of us have been there and done that and we survived it, and tey will too. Be strong."
