Texas Department of Transportation Gearing Up for ‘Click It or Ticket’ Campaign

TxDot

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) are gearing up for their annual ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign, which urges drivers to use their seat belt, or face fines and court costs of up to $250.

Starting May 19th, the ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign will go through June 1st. Law enforcement will be cracking down on drivers who choose not to use their seat belt.

TxDOT deputy executive director, John Barton, talks about seat belt safety:

“Seat belts save lives. That’s a fact. Buckling up will keep you from getting a ticket, and more importantly, it could save your life. Whether you’re the driver or a passenger, everyone in the vehicle is required by law to wear a seat belt for every trip. The cost of not using one just isn’t worth it.”

According to TxDot’s official website, in 2002, only 76% of Texans buckled up. But, with campaigns like this creating awareness for seat belt safety, 9 out of every 10 Texans now buckle up.

Literally, it takes 2 seconds to buckle your seat belt. And, when you do, that increases your chances of surviving a serious wreck in a car by 45%, and 60% in a pickup.

Just surviving a wreck should be motivation enough to wear a seat belt. But, if that doesn’t help, maybe losing some cash out of your pocket book will when that cop pulls you over and gives you a ticket for not wearing one.
