The race for the Sheriffs office in Abilene is promising to be a heated race as the candidates pour their feelings and experience into their campaigns. Hardin Simmons University social work students will be holding an 'Open Public Forum' on campus April 24th. Their goal is to distinguish the clear differences between all three candidates. Guess who the HSU students have coming to the 'Open Public Forum'?

Incumbent Taylor County Sheriff Les Bruce and his opposing candidates Ricky Bishop and Art Casarez will all be in attendance during the open forum.

Melissa Milliorn, associate professor of social work and head of the department, says, “Students in my policy class volunteered to assist with the multitude of duties to make this forum happen. It’s a lot of work for them, and because it is a volunteer effort, it’s in addition to their studies and jobs.”

The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in the Johnson Building, starting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend as the candidates will be allowed to speak for about 10 minutes after which the floor will be open and the public will be allowed to ask questions of the candidates.

What would you like to ask the candidates? What do you think are some serious issues that the Sheriffs office needs to address? Will you attend the forum?
