West Texans Donated Over $35,000 to Benefit the St. Jude Children with Cancer

Who says 13 is an unlucky number? The 13th Annual KEAN 105 St. Jude Radiothon, Feb. 28th and March 1st was successful in raising over $35,500 for the kids of St. Jude. For two days and a total of 26 hours Shay in the Midday Hill, Super Dave Wheaton and I put on a radiothon sharing the our stories, and those of the families that have been helped by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The children that are helped by St. Jude come from all over, but many are from right here in West Texas.

Clayton Gardner is the kind of guy who "gets it". He was in west Texas for a routine radio tour to promote his new single, 'Happy Ending', and Gardner made it a point to drop into the KEAN-105 studio in the middle of our St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Radiothon. At a time in his career when every mention of his new single is extremely important to him, Clayton put his self-promotion skills aside to put the focus on the St. Jude cause.

It's that time of year, where we as a radio station and a community come together to help support the 'Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon' this Thursday, February 28th and Friday March 1st, 2013 from 6 AM till 7 PM both days. How would you like to go a month without shaving? The folks at St. Jude Children's Hospital are holding the second annual, "No Shave November" benefit. This all got started as a little wager amongst Warner Music Nashville (WMN) employees who agreed not to shave for a month. The following year, the stakes got bigger and WMN challenged Music Row and Country Radio into a "No Shave November" competition to raise money for St. Jude kids. Now, No Shave November is an annual, month-long event that involves growing facial hair during the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives. I was in Memphis last Thursday-Sunday for St. Jude Radiothon Seminar. Each year they bring in a surprise guest motivational speaker. We always try to guess who it is but they keep it top secret until they introduce the person. We've had country star Wynonna, ice skater Scott Hamilton, St. Louis Cardinals coach Tony La Russa, war heroes, sports heroes, movie producers and many others.
