The Dirty River Boys are great. Their Music is great, and they are a great group of dudes. But the greatest thing about these boys from El Paso, is how greatly they believe in themselves. Well, that and the fact their belief isn't misplaced.
Ray Wylie Hubbard is a legendary outlaw country artist, so it's only fitting that the man bring his trademark 'Grit & Groove' style to the 4th annual Outlaws & Legends Music Fest. I was honored to have another opportunity to talk with a man who has been a huge influence on music in the Lone Star State and around the country.
The 2014 Outlaws & Legends Music Fest promises to be the biggest and the best in the annual event's 4-year history. The festival will not only feature an extra day of full band performances, but the star power has been kicked up a notch as well.
Letterman, or someone on his staff, has an apparent fondness for alternative-country, and this is good. Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jason Isbell, Dale Watson and Randy Rogers Band have all recently taken their talents to Late Night.
David Letterman is a pretty big fan of Ray Wylie Hubbard. Last fall, his producers contacted Ray to appear on the Late Show. As a result, RWH came on the show and performed 'Mother Blues' from his newest CD 'The Grifter's Hymnal'. But Letterman had a special request that Hubbard stick around to perform an older song that isn't necessarily ideal for his CBS network television audience.
We're not sure how excited Ray Wylie Hubbard gets about live performances these days, but the Texas music legend was clearly thrilled to have the opportunity to perform before a national TV audience on The Late Show with David Letterman. Wednesday night (1/9), Hubbard got that opportunity, and he and his band knocked it out of the park.
Hardcore Texas music fans know all about Ray Wylie Hubbard and his contribution to the music scene, both as a singer/songwriter and a producer of great young talent. But outside the southwestern United States, knowledge of his legendary status is more underground than mainstream. That's why it's all the more cool that Hubbard has been asked to play 'The Late Show with David Letterman' on January 9th.
Charlie Shafter has been around the Texas music scene for several years. Since putting together a band, recording a CD, and playing live endlessly for the past 4-5 years, Shafter has matured into one of the strongest singer/songwriters around. With guidance from Texas music legend Ray Wylie Hubbard, his new, self-titled CD is great proof to that fact.
