The McMurry men’s basketball team is hosting a special food drive benefiting the Abilene Food Bank. The War Hawks’ have come up with a couple of unique ways to help out. On Tuesday, December 18th, bring any non-perishable food item to the donation box in the lobby of Kimbrell Arena and get in free to the home game versus Northern New Mexico College. McMurry University’s Christmas Light Show on December 4th will feature a live Holiday Band Concert and you're invited. Come and enjoy Christmas music, hot chocolate and cookies, and see this year’s McMurry Christmas Light Show in front of the Furr Welcome Center. A reception will be held inside the Furr Welcome Center immediately following the lighting ceremony.

Abilene's McMurry University to Honor Veterans with "A Salute to Our Military" on Thursday, November 8th

With Veterans Day coming up on Monday, Nov. 12th. McMurry University will honor all veterans with a special program entitled “A Salute to Our Military.” The program will feature a panel discussion titled “An Informed View of Military Experience and Historical Narratives” with an emphasis on the Vietnam era. Plus a military panel question and answer session and student readings from 'The Things They Carried' by Tim O’Brien and 'Platoon Leader' by James McDonough. The event is free and open to the public.

McMurry University Band is Holding a Big Garage Sale This Saturday

The McMurry Marching Band is having a big 'fundraiser garage sale' this Saturday, October 6th. The event will benefit the McMurry Band and the new band service organization, Kappa Kappa Psi. Keith Lloyd the assistant Director of Bands says "we're clearing out closets, storage buildings and other rooms of all the old band things we no longer need". Not only 'band' related items will be for sale.

The results are in, 'The Chronicle of Higher Education' just released their fifth annual report on 'The Academic Workplace,' based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities in America. 103 of the 294 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” status. McMurry University was awarded honors in two separate categories.

McMurry to Entertain Abilene With 'Swing Swang Swung' [AUDIO]

'Swing, Swang, Swung', will be a first for McMurry Universities theater and jazz band departments. Every summer McMurry puts on two dinner theaters, for the second production of the 2012 McMurry summer series 'Swing, Swang, Swung' as they call it, will be an evening of music, dining, and dancing in a nightclub setting, featuring a full seven piece jazz band with a female vocalist.

If you drive by the corner of S. 14th and Sayles this week, you most likely have noticed the beautiful, green lawn between the road and McMurry University campus buildings has been populated by camping tents. You may also notice several "panhandlers" on that street corner, who look suspiciously like college students. This is all a part of McMurry University students acting locally in order to raise awareness for a global situation.
