Abilene Church Has Live Music Fundraiser for New Playground This Saturday

The Wylie Christian Church is a church that I've often referred to, as the little church on the hill. So when I was asked by Jon and Don a couple of church elders, to help get the word out, I jumped at the chance. Wylie Christian Church is in dire need of a "real playground" for the children, so the church is hosting a party of with lots of live bands this Saturday, September 29th from 2 - 6 p.m. on the churches parking lot at 6250 Buffalo Gap road.

Business Mercado was this past Saturday at the Abilene civic center. What I expected was a very subdued and quite affair. Was I surprised when I walked into the civic center and was greeted with the wonderful sounds of a Mariachi band. Mariachi Alma Mexicana set the mood and made me feel like I was in a real Mercado (Market) in Mexico. The air was filled with sound and the smell of fresh tamales, compliments of our local United Super Markets. This Free to the public event was attended by people of all walks of life and all ages. One thing we all had in common, was that, when the Mariachi Alma Mexicana played we all stopped to listen, sing along, danced or swayed to the beat of the music. Oh and yes there were over one hundred businesses represented and y es they were talking business and how they could better serve us.

Cruise Night Memories

This will be the 29th Annual KEAN 105 Cruise Night and the route we will be taking a more nostalgic night. Taking it old school the cruise for 2011 will be from the old K-Mart on North 1st to the old Mac Eplen's at 1st and Shelton, around Mac's back on to North 1st heading west to the old K-Mart and back around again. WOW! That just brought back old memories of when I was in high school and we'd get some Eats and cold soft drinks at Mac's or Milano's on North 1st street. I wished I could still fit into my old Abilene High School letter jacket. I would be wearing it this Saturday during the cruise from 5 till 7 PM. After the cruise is over we will all go to the new K-Mart parking lot on South 1st street for the 29th Annual Sock Hop Dance and Car Show.
