s the fourth of July nears, there are a lot of celebrations going on in Abilene and the Big Country. First off, there are two neighborhood parades I'm aware of, the Amarillo Street Parade and the Hillcrest neighborhood parade. The later will take place Wednesday July 4th. My best friend is pregnant, I'm going through chemo treatment and Saturday we, along with my mom, went to eat and then ran to the mall for just a bit. We needed to find one thing so we parked at one end of the mall, closest to what we needed. Of course, they didn't have what we were looking for so here we go walking the mall.

The Friday prior to the July fourth holiday, the Abilene Association of Realtors (A.A.R.) always sponsor a blood drive at the Mall of Abilene, just outside of the Premier Cinema 6 theater. This year was no different, as realtors and those in the housing industry turned out to support the blood drive. Last year the A.A.R. collected 31 units of blood and their goal was to exceed that.

As I was reading my current issue of Texas Parks & Wildlife I ran across a new sport that is gaining in popularity and is not just for the beach. It's called stand up paddle boarding or SUP. It seems this is becoming the fastest growing part of paddling sports. It's great exercise as much as it is fun.
