HSU Students Will Host a "Turkey Day 5K" Fun Run to Benefit Abilene's Connecting Caring Communities November 17th

The 'Turkey Day 5K' is set for Saturday, November 17th, and will begin at the Abilene Civic Center northwest parking lot. The event is hosted by Hardin-Simmons University’s (HSU) Student Congress and Student Activities organizations. The Turkey Day 5K is open to anyone who wants to participate and is a fundraiser to benefit Connecting Caring Communities. The Abilene Runners Club will assist the HSU student organization with the Turkey Day 5K.

Texas Independence Day was this past Friday March 2nd, and March 6th, marks the day that many defenders fell during the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Hardin Simmons University students chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, will join in a campaign asking students to pledge a promise to not Text While Driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that in 2008, 5,800 people were killed all due to distracted drivers. The NTSA says those numbers are climbing more every year. [...]

Art Walk Will Feature 8 HSU Students Artwork

The Center for Contemporary Arts hosts Art-Walk the second Thursday of every month, Art-Walk is free and open to the public. On many occasions the Center for Contemporary Arts, features the work of local artisans, at the March 8th Art-Walk, Roberts Studio will be hosting the art from eight Hardin Simmons University students. The upcoming exhibition is by art students Alx Dockter, William Wright, Sandra Deanda, Kayla Beall, Sarah Davidson, Lauren Jay, Alyssa Derrick, and Cesar Matera. The exhibition will be called, “Misconstructions,” utilizing several mediums, done by the eight seniors that are set to graduate May 2012.

The asteroid first labeled "Asteroid 4984" has been named in honor of a local Harden Simmons University professor. Dr. Patrick Miller, has been singly responsible for inspiring and guiding many high school and college students into the field of astrological studies. “Patrick Miller” is the new name for an asteroid orbiting in our solar system. It's not close enough to be seen by the naked eye. However, the asteroid now known as the "Patrick Miller" is orbiting just beyond the planet Mars. The Minor Planet Center officially named the asteroid in honor of the work done by Dr. Miller at Hardin-Simmons University in 2009.
