American Red Cross Asks for Donations to Help with the Possum Kingdom Lake Fires [VIDEO]

Friday August 10th, firefighters battling the wildfires near Possum Kingdom Lake, called on the American Red Cross office in Abilene to assist by provide bottled water and Gatorade around the clock. Within hours, the local Red Cross volunteers had trucks loaded and were dispatched to Possum Kingdom. By Monday August 13th, supplies were beginning to diminish and the American Red Cross in Abilene was being asked to assist in the Tarrant and Johnson Counties area after last nights brutal storms. The Red Cross is asking the media for assistance in getting the word out. Here's how you can help.

Based on information I received from my friends at State Farm Insurance Company, more cooking fires occur in the Lone Star State on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. Texas is the top state in the nation when it comes to cooking fires at Thanksgiving. My friends at State Farm have put together a short video to show what actually goes wrong when deep frying a turkey. Cooking-related claims more than double on Thanksgiving Day compared to an average day any other time of the year. With the popularity of deep-frying turkeys on the rise, more people put themselves in harms way and run a higher risk at burning themselves, others and their properties.

Sitting there relaxing in my old tank top, gym shorts and flip-flops, when someone starts beating on my front door. Not recognizing the lady at my front door I asked calmly and politely, may I help you? She says, "your house is about to catch fire!", after seeing the look of disbelief she continued "the grass and trees in your back yard are on fire!" I finally got the message, this lady was not kidding me. As I step out to check on this "so called fire", OH! part of my back yard is on fire and it's working it's way to my house. I ran in changed clothes and got everyone ready to evacuate should it be necessary. All the while trying to stay calm while talking to the 911 operator. They are on the way said 911's operator.
