The Farm Bill and Drought to be Main Focus at Abilene Wheat Conference

The Big Country Wheat Conference will be held August 23rd at the Taylor County fair grounds, 1982 Lytle Way in Abilene. The Farm Bill will affect most all West Texans, as most farmers and ranchers try to figure out the challenges the new 'Farm Bill' will bring. The drought conditions are also top-of-mind for most area farmers And ranchers. If you'd like to attend the event, there is no registration fee for those who preregister by August 17th.

Drought in West Texas Drives More Wild Animals Into Abilene

As I drive around town I've noticed more wild animals either dead on city streets, or just wandering around town. On my commute to and from work, I counted 7 dead 'wild animals' on the roads. There was three coyotes, one porcupine, one deer, one raccoon and a deer. Then while I was Broadcasting live on location at a car lot this past Saturday, a skunk (in the middle of the day), casually strolled by not five feet from where we were seated, paused to look at us for minute and then continued on it's way. I called Abilene Animal Control to find out, 'why are we seeing so many wild animals in Abilene?' (CAUTION! Graphic images included)

Sitting there relaxing in my old tank top, gym shorts and flip-flops, when someone starts beating on my front door. Not recognizing the lady at my front door I asked calmly and politely, may I help you? She says, "your house is about to catch fire!", after seeing the look of disbelief she continued "the grass and trees in your back yard are on fire!" I finally got the message, this lady was not kidding me. As I step out to check on this "so called fire", OH! part of my back yard is on fire and it's working it's way to my house. I ran in changed clothes and got everyone ready to evacuate should it be necessary. All the while trying to stay calm while talking to the 911 operator. They are on the way said 911's operator.
