The Texans, a Christian singing group is scheduled to appear at the Elmwood Baptist Church on the corner of South 14th and Barrow Street. The group will perform on Sunday, December 16th at 6 PM. This will be a family event as this is a free Christian Christmas Concert. The Texans began their musical career at Dallas Christian College in 1971. Today the perform mainly in Branson Missouri since their first show there in 1983 but were known to take to the road and tour, as is the case here in Abilene.

The Church of Heavenly Rest in Abilene and the Abilene Philharmonic present "The Nocturne Project" a concert series which began last year. The series of chamber concerts will feature the tremendous talent found on the orchestras stage without the need for a conductor. The Nocturne Project forces the musicians to work together and to listen more intently all the while challenging them to work better as a group. The Nocturne Project concerts and are meant to enhance the Philharmonic's regular season. 'The Nocturne Project' is kind of like the "Orpheus Chamber Orchestra" from New York City.

The Wylie Christian Church is a church that I've often referred to, as the little church on the hill. So when I was asked by Jon and Don a couple of church elders, to help get the word out, I jumped at the chance. Wylie Christian Church is in dire need of a "real playground" for the children, so the church is hosting a party of with lots of live bands this Saturday, September 29th from 2 - 6 p.m. on the churches parking lot at 6250 Buffalo Gap road.

Trinity Baptist Church youth Pastor Joseph Plagge says they're planning one last bash before school starts. The event is will take place at Trinity Baptist Church located at 871 Woodlawn Drive. It is free and open to children ages 3 years old thru 5th grade. Plagge says "this will also be a perfect opportunity to introduce neighborhood children to AWANA."

I'm a little on the fence on the question of dressing up for church. I was raised that you wore a dress (girls) and slacks (boys), there was no wearing of shorts unless they were
"dressy". We had our "Church Clothes/Sunday Best" and they weren't worn to play in, they were for church. It seems though these days the rules are much more relaxed and pretty much as long as you show up it doesn't matter what you wear to church. I've even seen tank tops and flip flops being worn. I believe that as long as you are there to receive God's message he probably doesn't mind your dress code. However, I also think that you should at least put a little effort into it and try to dress with a little decorum.

I heard in church last Sunday that NFL quarterback Tim Tebows mom was coming to Abilene, and that she would be the featured speaker during the 'Compassion In Action' regional women’s conference on Saturday, April 28, at Beltway Bark Baptist Church.
