The first announcements were just released as to who is up for what in the Texas Regional Radio (TRR) Music Awards. Texas music newcomer Roy Solis kicked off his new year with some unexpected great news. He was just nominated for New Male Vocalist in the first round of voting. Solis said he was taken completely by surprise when he first learned of he announcement. Solis said “I’m overwhelmed and honored to be a nominee. I am grateful to my fans, my peers and radio for this honor. This is a great way to start my New Year!”

The 2012 American Country Awards were Monday night (Dec. 10), and while the show has improved each year in the three since its introduction to Fox, there is still some room for growth. The support from superstars like Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum proves the show is being embraced by the country music community. With a few tweaks -- some major, some minor -- it could be received with open arms by viewers at home, as well.

Since the Rascal Flatts album debuted at number one on the country album charts in November of last year, they are one of only four country artists to debut six straight albums in a row at the top of the album sales charts. Since November 2010 the album has reached Platinum status and now the latest single “Easy,” featuring a duet with Natasha Bedingfield has just been certified Gold from the Recording Industry Association of America the RIAA, for selling more than half a million copies of the single. An interesting side note is that the song has just now reached top 10 status and is still climbing the charts on it's way to number one.

Easton Corbin arrived in Nashville with no preconceived notions and/or ideas of making it big. Not at least right away. What he did say to himself was "boy, keep it real and don't forget where you came from." And that is exactly what Corbin has done, he's kept his music pure and simple. In fact his first two singles he released went straight to number one. It's one thing for an artist to have a song go to #1 but it's a whole other ball game to have your first two songs you have written and recorded go to the top spot and then stay there for multiple weeks.

The latest Abilene Reporter News 2011 "Readers Choice" awards were announced at the Abilene Country Club in a private packed house ceremony. All the attendees were either there to receive the Abilene Reporter News Readers Choice award, or runner-up award. This year there were more ties for either the top honor or runner-up award than ever before. Another thing that I noticed is that a lot of the favorites from last year switched spots with last years runners up being picked as the winners this year.

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ was once again named Best Drama Series at the Daytime Emmy Awards, marking the third-consecutive win for the popular CBS soap.
