Surfers Attach Flares to Their Boards to Make Incredible, Glowing Waves [VIDEO]

The Red Bull Surf Team recently shot footage of pro surfers Bruce Irons, Kolohe Andino and Jamie O’Brien catching some Indonesian waves — with emergency flares attached to the back of their boards.

As if surfing isn’t hard enough on its own, the guys also had to work to keep the flares above the water. But the resulting nighttime shots were especially worth the effort, since the red glow from the flares gives the illusion of hanging ten on molten lava.
