Sturgill Simpson is set to play a part in an upcoming CBS All Access original series, $1. The singer-songwriter is part of a cast of big names, including Leslie Odom Jr. and more.

According to a press release, $1 is a mystery series set in Braden, a small, Rust Belt-area town in post-recession America. As a single dollar bill changes hands, it connects a group of men and women involved in a multiple murder; the dollar bill's path in each episode will help show the modern town's cultural and class divisions as its residents' secrets are revealed.

In $1, Simpson will play Ken Fry, a Braden resident who worked at the local steel mill until Bud "Pop" Carl (John Carroll Lynch) let him go. Now, Fry earns a living by holding a never-ending yard sale; the catch is, the items for sale have been stolen from his neighbors' yards and porches.

Simpson's recurring role in $1 will mark his acting debut. In addition to Odom Jr. and Lynch, his fellow cast members include Nathaniel Martello-White, Philip Ettinger, Chris Denham, Kirrilee Berger, Gracie Lawrence and Jeff Perry. The series will begin production in late March in Pittsburgh, Pa.

CBS All Access is CBS' video on-demand and live streaming subscription service; as such, $1 is being produced by CBS Television Studios. Jason Mosberg created the series; Matt DeRoss and Alexandre Dauman will serve as executive producers, while Craig Zobel is directing and executing producing.
