Late last week, we found that 'Star Wars'' first venture into the franchise future with the animated series 'Star Wars Rebels' would shortly ignite its first teaser, and today Disney XD has delivered. Our first look at the new series set between the prequel and original trilogies has arrived, so what can we learn from the brief footage?

Honestly? Not very much, though we'll likely gain a stronger insight into 'Star Wars Rebels' from the forthcoming New York Comic-Con 2013 panel this weekend. For now, the brief look at 'Star Wars Rebels' evokes two classic images from the original trilogy, both the opening shot of 'A New Hope' and Han Solo's classic "float away with the rest of the garbage" ploy from 'The Empire Strikes Back.'

So far, we know that ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will take place “in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape,” and have glimpsed concept art of a new Millenium Falcon-esque starship that will serve as a central location. No voice cast has been made official, though we recently heard Freddie Prinze Jr., ‘The Butler’ star David Oyelowo, Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum were on the short list.

Picking up where the now-canceled ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ left off, ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will feature on the creative side screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: First Class,’ ‘Elysium‘), who’s writing the first episode, as well as ‘Clone Wars’ supervising director Dave Filoni and ‘Young Justice’ producer Greg Weisman.

We'll be on hand this weekend to learn more about 'Star Wars Rebels' from New York Comic-Con 2013, but in the meantime, check out the first teaser above and tell us what you want to see from the new 'Star Wars' in the comments!
