It's Spring, my favorite time of the year. Everything is fresh and new. The trees and flowers start blooming, the days get longer, everyone wants to be outside; there just seems to be more energy in the Spring time. However, while all of that is nice the real reason I love this time of year is because of baseball and basketball. Yes, Spring training is underway for the upcoming baseball season and March Madness is underway for college basketball. Most everyone knows I love the New York Yankees, most especially Derek Jeter, and the Duke Blue Devils. My love of those two teams goes back to when I was a kid. My mom was a Yankees fan, as was most of her family, so I grew up watching them on TV and cheering for them. My love of Duke came when I was in Junior High. It was a school I had hoped to be able to attend, but you have to be really smart to go there and my SAT scores said I wasn't very smart. So I just had to settle on being their biggest fan.

It's not just those two teams though, I love both sports no matter what, maybe because I understand most of the rules of the game. Football, I just don't get all the rules.

My boyfriends son, who is 13, is a big baseball player. He's outstanding and getting better and better. He wants to go on to play college ball and then, like every kid, he wants to play professionally. I say go for it, dream big! I'm just glad he's doing it in a sport I love and appreciate.

March Madness is just around the corner and for three weeks, I am glued to the TV. I could go on for hours telling you about all my favorite (and not so favorite) players, coaches, teams, and rivalries but we will just leave it at the fact that for the next few months I will be in sports heaven.

This years March Madness will be especially exciting because they are celebrating 75 years. You can even vote for your all-time favorite players, which will be announced during the tournament.

The baseball season is a bit longer so just be sure to check out their calendar. However, I can tell you they will be playing the Texas Rangers in Arlington with a three day run June 25-27.
