Rod Ballou is making a push to be heard outside Frisco. The Texas Country music singer and songwriter has been hard at work on the Lone Star highways in support of his latest single, 'Where Hell Meets High Water' from his CD of the same name. His road trip recently stopped in Abilene, and I had a chance to talk with Rod and get to know him better.

The first part of my conversation with Rod Ballou included an introduction "It started when I was very young but really seriously trying to do something, write songs and get people to listen for 5 years.". He tells us that at least some of his encouragement came from maternal appreciation. "Mom said they were great, all the way through. But I'm trying to get someone else to listen now.". He explains he may have taken the wrong avenue "When it first started out, I was just a babe in the woods and very naive, and I went to Nashville, and thought 'shoot, I'll write really good songs and they're going to like them and the rest is history'. And, uh, little did I know.".

The second portion of my interview with Rod Ballou included an acoustic performance of his song 'All I Need is a Road'. Check it our here:

We wrapped up our conversation talking about Rod's plans for the future, which includes booking more shows. "I'm just trying to work. I'm just trying to find a place to play. I do find that there's more and more venues that are having the solo stuff, but we've got a band that's coming together and we'll be ready to go on the road pretty quick, so hopefully that'll all pan out too, and play some bigger and better venues. I really like the band setting because of all the dynamics that go into it.". Ballou also discussed his musical goals for the years ahead. Here's the final segment of my conversation with Rod:

One thing is for sure, Rod Ballou is a really nice, sincere person who is only helping himself by making the acquaintance of radio dj's and club owners around Texas. You can get the latest from Rod on his official website, and also catch up with him on Facebook and Twitter. And you can take a listen to and buy Rod Ballou's music by visiting his Reverbnation page, including his new single, 'Where Hell Meets High Water'. All the best, Rod!
