Country music artists are making their opinions heard on how Miley Cyrus has been making headlines lately, mainly because her dad, Billy Ray has been a part of the country music community for two decades. Shania Twain has offered an opinion, and it's a pretty important one - since she went through a lot of scrutiny for her appearance back in the day.

Twain was commonly criticized for being overly sexy and using her looks as a platform for success when she shot to fame. In an article from TheGlobeAndMail.com, Shania was asked what she thinks about Miley using sex to sell her music. The country star deflected the subject at first, commenting:

"I don’t know her personally. I don’t know why she’s doing what she’s doing. So, I don’t really have an opinion on that."

But Twain didn't stop there. She went on to explain that Cyrus was just expressing herself artistically.

"You’ve got to do what works for you. Being in that critical eye is a challenge in itself. If Miley is assessing what she’s doing, and saying 'This is who I am,' then I say, do that. Hopefully she’s enjoying it...I smile at young artists being young, finding themselves. I think youth is beautiful. I think finding yourself is beautiful and very necessary."

Twain (now 48) related to Miley in terms of her own career, believing that she never felt like she had to use her good looks or sex to sell records.

"I was always comfortable with what I was doing. Looking back, I never felt pressure to exploit myself. And I remain comfortable with it today. It would be horrific, looking back 20 years later, as I am now, and feeling embarrassed at what I did. I would never want to set myself up for that."

These days, Miley can use as many supporters as she can get. And Shania is a great music star to have on her side.
