Universal is going forward with their 'Van Hesling' reboot, and currently have Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman attached as writers and producers, and Tom Cruise attached as the star (and producer... when you're successful, you get to produce your hits). Now it looks like Rupert Sanders' hat is in the ring for the directing gig (no word if he will also get to produce).

Sanders was the director of 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' which was also at Universal, and he was signed early on to helm a sequel (which has had writers like David Koepp attached). When Kristen Stewart's affair with the director was revealed it scuttled direct sequel plans and led to a suggested spin-off with Chris Hemsworth's character, which may never come to pass.

Twitch is reporting this, and note that they've just begun the conversion. But it wouldn't surprise us if Sanders ended up with the gig: He's shown the studio that he can handled a huge budget production in the action fantasy genre, and with so many alpha dogs on the project he's also in no position to preen. Universal also signed him for another movie, so - since we'd expect 'Snow White' sequels to wither away - this seems a good way to keep the director at the studio while also giving him a bigger tentpole release.

If he does sign on, we hope they sit him down to watch 2004's 'Van Helsing' and tell him to do the opposite of that.
