Rooster Kills Man During Cockfight

So I read the headline "Armed Bird at Cockfight Kills Man in California" and I think to myself the bird is ARMED?   I know it's not a laughing matter, it was just the headline caught my attention.  Apparently the bird really was armed, it had a knife attached to it's leg and it stabbed a man in the leg that caused enough damage that it killed the man.  The man being Jose Luis Ochoa.  So this is a freak accident but at the same time why are people still conducting cock fights?

No one was arrested in this case and it's only a misdemeanor in the state of California, for a first offense, the second is a felony.   This would have been Ochoa's second offense as he plead no contest to the same offense last year.  However, in the end, he paid the ultimate price for his stupidity.
