I was just about to go up on stage at Guitars and Cadillac's and introduce the first act Friday night at the Brantley Gilbert concert, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw another country music singer, songwriter and producer, Rhett Akins. I'd heard that he might be traveling with this group of guys, and for good reason. Thomas Rhett-Akins is the son of Rhett Akins. So right after I got done bringing on Thomas Rhett I got a chance to talk to his well known father and the singer of "That Ain't My Truck"

Rhett tells me he felt sorry for his boy because he and his band have been touring the country in a cargo van pulling a trailer. Daddy Rhett bought his son a new tour bus so that he would have a place to call home while on the road. Furthermore, the elder Akins admitted it's a lot easier to write songs while on the road, especially when they're out of phone and TV range (no interruptions). I congratulated him on his latest accomplishment with the Blake Shelton song "Honey Bee" that was certified number one by BMI and Billboard Magazine. I asked him if he prefers writing over touring he said "I'm still on the road some, about a hundred dates a year, but I really do enjoy writing songs for others like Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean. In fact I've got a song at George Strait's office and I hope he records it it's right up his alley." Rhett Akins is one of the nice guys in the industry, kind enough to share his thoughts and whats going on in his life. He asked me not to bring attention to his presences in the audience this was not about him he said "it's Thomas' night to shine"

This is the official Rhett Akins - That Ain't My Truck music video. See how young he looks.
