As the old saying goes, "It's not over till the fat lady sings". She has sung and the audience loved her so much she raised a near record high for the 2011 Rehab telethon.

The 41st annual telethon Saturday raised more than one point two million dollars. The exact total at midnight was $1,209,995 and the overall total now in 41 years is over $33 million dollars.

Director of Donor Relations for the Center, Dan Huggins, expressed thanks to everyone who had a role in helping the REHAB raise the funds that go to support patients at facilities in Abilene, San Angelo and Ozona.  Huggins said “We are so grateful for the continued support and are so pleased with the outcome.”

The five hour long live television show, which was broadcast into 10 television markets, featured the country music group Diamond Rio along with host Charlie Chase, Red Steagall,  Bill and Susan Hayes, Brad Maule and local talent Twyla Foreman. The internet auction, which ended at midnight, is included in the overall total and raised more than $266,500.  Auction distribution begins Sunday with the calling of the high bidders.  Winning bidders can pick up their items Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 at the Abilene Civic Center and distribution continues Monday 9 am to 5 pm.

All of the funds raised go to the Rehab Center.  The organization’s mission since inception has been to improve the quality of life of those served regardless of their financial circumstances.
