If ever there were a great and almighty pumpkin put on this earth to bring the spirit of the Halloween season to children all over the world, it would be this record-setting melon discovered last week at the Deerfield Fair in New Hampshire.

This gourd-like monstrosity weighs in at about 1,844 pounds, which comes in nearly 25 pounds heavier than last year’s Canadian winner to set a new world record for the heaviest pumpkin.

According to proud pumpkin owner Steve Geddes, he had a good feeling he was going to win this year’s contest after realizing over the summer that his freakishly stout pumpkin was gaining nearly 35 pounds a day.

However, Geddes is a little nervous about losing his world record to a competitor at the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts, where it is rumored there is a contender from Rhode Island with a good chance at claiming the title.
