Hear Reba McEntire’s ‘Stronger Than the Truth’ Title Track

One of 12 songs on Stronger Than the Truth, the project's title track was written by Hannah Louise Blaylock, formerly of Edens Edge, and Autumn McEntire, who is Reba McEntire's niece (Autumn is the oldest daughter of McEntire's brother Pake). A down-tempo, guitar-driven track, "Stronger Than the Truth" tells of the dissolution of a relationship: "I never dreamed of wanting more than a small-town simple life," McEntire sings. "But then I fell in icy water standin' in the grocery line / I overheard my name and yours and one I did not recognize / Now everything I thought I knew is walkin' out the door ..."

"There's not a sound, a sound as loud as silence / There's not a blade sharper than a knife," goes the chorus. "There's not a low lower than being the last one to know / You got a brand-new start with someone new / And there's no whiskey stronger than the truth."

As McEntire has promised, "Stronger Than the Truth" hints that McEntire's new album will be quite traditional. At a press event in the fall of 2018, McEntire shared that the record was "gonna be probably the most country album I've ever recorded."

"I grew up on an 8,000-acre family ranch singing at dance halls, honky-tonks and rodeos with my brother and sister. Stronger Than the Truth takes me back to that kind of country music that I grew up with," McEntire says in a press release. "I haven't gotten to do that in a while, so I'm thrilled to pieces to release this new music."

Stronger Than the Truth is due out April 5, just two days before McEntire hosts the 2019 ACM Awards. The project will be released on Big Machine Records.
