We can’t imagine Reba McEntire speaking with anything but a sweet southern drawl. But as it turns out, the iconic country star would love to try out a British accent for producers of ‘Downton Abbey.’ McEntire recently spilled that snagging a role on the hit PBS drama would be a dream come true for her.

‘Downton Abbey’ has become a hit for Anglophiles all over the U.S. — and apparently, that includes country stars, too. The series, set in Downton Abbey (believe it or not), takes place in the fictional Yorkshire country home of the Earl and Countess of Grantham. The show follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. While that might sound kind of boring, drama between the Crawley sisters and their rotating cast of love interests is neverending, which is what keeps all kinds of folks watching.

Recently, when Zap2It asked the notorious red-headed country star what show she would love to be on, she answered, “‘Downton Abbey!’” without a second’s hesitation.

“Was I too quick on that answer? I’ve already got it in my mind, I’ve already got it written it out,” McEntire revealed. “I would love to play Lady Mary’s cousin. Shirley MacLaine’s going to be the mother, and I could play her other daughter who lives in America.”

“I love that show and I can’t wait for the third season,” the ‘Turn on the Radio’ hitmaker added. “I’m a huge fan of Shirley MacLaine, too. All the characters, the cinematography. Everything is beautiful on that show. Just a great story. I love it.”

Who knew that McEntire was the biggest ‘Downtown Abbey’ fan? Actually, she and MacLaine look pretty great side-by-side, and the country star has a lot of acting experience on her resume, thanks to her self-titled sitcom, ‘Reba’ and latest venture on ‘Malibu Country.’

Now, if she could just nail down that British accent…
