Rattlesnakes, some say "it's what put Sweetwater Texas on the map", others say "it's best served with coleslaw and an ice cold beer" and I say "put on some comfortable walking shoes 'cause there's a lot to see and do". If snakes don't scare you, then head over to Sweetwater Texas from March the 8th through the 11th for the '54th Annual Sweerwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Round-Up' and come hungry, because the rattlesnake meat eating contest is scheduled for Sunday March 11th at 2pm, register at least an hour before the contest begins.

Th Rattlesnake Round-Up is a Big Country tradition that comes complete with a chili and brisket cook-off, gun and knife show, full sized carnival and, what I think is the largest flea-market in West Texas. By the looks of the schedule of events there's enough to do there, that it just might be a good idea to get a hotel room and make it a weekend event. The Sweetwater Jaycees will also be hosting rattlesnake round-up tours on a regular schedule through out the weekend. See the Jaycees schedule for a complete list of fun events.
