Randy Houser Says Touring Life Is ‘Already Hard’ Without His Newborn Son

It’s one thing to be a rockin’ country star traveling the world from arena to arena where your fans hang on your every note. It’s entirely another thing when you have a beautiful newborn baby boy waiting for you back home. That’s the new tension country star Randy Houser is experiencing, and the ‘I’m a Ramblin’ Man’ singer, a self-proclaimed diaper-changing pro, isn’t looking forward to being away from West Yantz Houser, who’s just more than a month old.

“I’m a professional at changing diapers,” Houser told the Tennessean. “I’m fast. My wife will tell you that she’s learning from me. She will. I’m very hands-on with it. I love it.” Perhaps his involvement in his son’s life is what’s going to make it even more difficult for him to be on tour for much of the next four months. Houser is the headlining act for a spring and summer tour presented by Jagermeister, hitting the road April 26 with opener Rick Monroe. And while he’s looking forward to the shows, Houser says the absence from his new family is going to be tough.

“It already is hard,” he said at the ACM Awards. “This is my first trip away from him. I’m already freaked out. Just a few days away is plenty. My wife is sending me little videos of what’s going on and he’s doing something cool every day that I’m missing, and that kind of sucks.”

Houser wed his new bride Jessa Yantz in the Dominican Republic last fall in an intimate island wedding. Baby West was born in March. In a recent interview with Taste of Country, he seemed to be loving the married life, even with the new challenges of being a father. “It’s been pretty natural,” he says of marriage. “I have to pick up my underwear and socks a little more [laughs], but other than that, it’s been really pretty easy.”

Now all he has to figure out is how to balance the touring life and the family life, but we’re sure the talented singer will be able to take on the challenge.
