If you haven’t seen ‘Prometheus‘ it might be wise to stay away from Regal Cinemas Thornton Place in Seattle, where a ticket-taker felt morally obligated to spoil the film for movie-goers as they entered the theater. And maybe the weirdest part of the story is why he felt obligated to spoil the film.

Warning: Spoilers ahead, obviously.

The fine folks at Badass Digest picked up this story (original post at The Stranger) about a self-righteous theater employee who decided to spoil the film. As a customer named Jorge recalls, the employee said:

I have to warn you… Halfway through the movie, the main female character will perform a self-induced abortion.

Regardless of your personal beliefs, I think we can all agree on a couple of things:

  1. ‘Prometheus’ is in no way a film that is or should be used as a platform for anyone’s personal or political beliefs. (Unless you want to create a Michael Fassbender robot, in which case, we fully support you.)
  2. Spoilers, regardless of your perceived moral superiority, are not cool. Ever.

The theater employee claims he was just doing his job, but we’d like to know where in the Regal Theater employee handbook it dictates that employees use their own personal beliefs (political, religious, or otherwise) to spoil the theater experience for paying customers who most likely don’t want to be spoiled less than a minute before they take their seat.

Jorge says he complained to management, who assured him it wasn’t a politically motivated move on the employee’s part (jokes!), so he went over their head and complained to Regal Entertainment Group — the corporate owners of the theater chain — who sent him two free tickets, which he promptly returned, dissatisfied with their handling of the matter.

Good on you, Jorge. We go to the movies to have a good time, not to endure some self-righteous goon’s political rants.
