New music is on the way from Pistol Annies, according to the group's most recognizable member. Miranda Lambert took to her official Twitter account this week to share the news that the 'Takin' Pills' trio is back in the studio working on their sophomore album.

”Up early,” tweeted Lambert, also known as 'Lonestar Annie.' “Why? Because I’m excited! Today we start record number 2 for @PistolAnnies! Can’t wait till y’all hear this stuff!”

Pistol Annies received critical acclaim for their debut disc, 'Hell on Heels,' which spawned the title track hit single, as well as the radio follow-up, 'Takin' Pills.' Despite their evolution as artists and songwriters since the release of the 2011 collection, Lambert assures fans that the group will not abandon their signature rootsy sound for their upcoming project.

“We’re not going to come out as a different group,” Lambert spills (quote via Country Music is Love). “Being around each other a lot, we’ve just written some intense songs."

In the meantime, fans can anticipate new solo material from band member Ashley Monroe (aka 'Hippie Annie'). The prolific songwriter is readying the release of her solo sophomore effort, 'Like a Rose,' which will be digitally released on Dec. 18. Music lovers who crave a hard copy of the project can find the Vince Gill-produced album in stores on Jan. 22.

'Heel on Heels' debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard's Country Albums chart in August 2011, earning the Annies a gold-selling certification in less than a year. The title track also surpassed 500,000 in digital sales, giving the trio their second gold plaque. They also earned a third certification for 'Run Daddy Run,' their contribution to 'The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond' official soundtrack.
