Photo Shows 8-Year-Old Boston Victim With ‘No More Hurting People’ Sign

Martin Richard - No More Hurting People

A heart-wrenching photo of 8-year-old Martin Richard, who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombing on Monday, shows the boy holding a hand-drawn sign that says, “No more hurting people. Peace.”

The photo was posted by Lucia Brawley, a friend of Martin’s former teacher, Racel Moo, on Facebook. Martin made the poster when his school organized a peace walk last year.

Along with the photo, Brawley wrote, “His message resonates powerfully today. My prayer is that we all live by Martin’s words, paying tribute to his too-brief, but immesurably valuable life by following his example.”

Martin was standing with his family at the finish line, cheering on family friends, when the two bombs exploded. His mother and 6-year-old sister were critically injured in the attack that left three dead and more than 100 injured.

In a written statement released on Monday, Martin’s father, Bill Richard said, “My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin.’’

The third-grader lived in Dorchester, a community just outside of Boston. Neighbors told local TV station WCVB that Martin loved to ride his bike.

RIP, Martin.
