Fans of FOX's 'New Girl' were particularly excited to learn that season 3 would return original pilot star Damon Wayans Jr. to the fold as "Coach" for a four-episode arc that began with this past Tuesday's aptly-titled "Coach." Well, good news! The former 'Happy Endings' star has booked himself a longer stay in the loft, but how long will the 'New Girl' gang be heavy an extra member?

Initially only scheduled for the aforementioned four episodes, Damon Wayans Jr. will instead populate the loft for the duration of 'New Girl' season 3, albeit technically as a special guest star, rather than a series regular proper. There's always next season!

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Wayans Jr. initially shot his role as "Coach" in the 'New Girl' pilot, as many had assumed ABC's 'Happy Endings' wouldn't see another season. ABC granted a surprise renewal to Wayans' comedy however, for which 'New Girl' added LaMorne Morris' Winston to replace Coach, rather than reshoot scenes of the pilot.

Ratings for 'New Girl' jumped 11% with Wayans' return, hence the minor course correction. Similarly, FOX's 'The Mindy Project' has enjoyed a suitable bit of attention for elevating fellow 'Happy Endings' castoff Adam Pally to series regular, before his guest arc even began.

What say you? Are you happy to have Damon Wayans Jr. back as Coach nearly fulltime? How have you been enjoying 'New Girl' season 3 thus far? Check out a highlight below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
