Nevermind, Brendan Fraser Bows Out of ‘Homeland’ Producer’s TNT Show ‘Legends’

Easy come, easy go.  A few weeks ago we were excited to learn that Brendan Fraser would make his first foray into regular TV with TNT’s ‘Legends,’ particularly given the series derived from ‘Homeland‘ executive producer Howard Gordon.  Now it seems that Fraser has dropped out of the project for personal reasons, but what could cause such a sudden departure?  And what does it mean for his TV development deal?

Brendan Fraser fans excited to see the one-time ‘The Mummy’ and ‘George of the Jungle’ star take to the small-screen full time might have to wait a bit longer, as Deadline reports that the actor has bowed out of TNT’s upcoming drama ‘Legends.’  Based on the Robert Littell spy novel of the same name and developed by ‘Homeland’s Howard Gordon, ‘Legends’ will follow undercover operative Martin Odum, who has the incredible ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. The operative’s own identity comes into question when a mysterious stranger suggests to the man that Martin isn’t quite who he thinks he is.

Reportedly, Fraser and Gordon experienced creative differences over the portrayal of the character, and couldn’t reconcile their respective ideas.  The ‘Legends’ role will be recast, but Fraser still may find TV work opposite Chloe Sevigny in A&E’s upoming ‘Those Who Kill,’ if not another series.

“Brendan is an incredible actor  and we have wanted to work with him for a very long time,” Fox 21 president Bert Salke says. “While this particular project may not have been the right fit, we are excited to develop cable properties with him that will showcase his amazing talent.”

Are you disappointed that Fraser won’t participate in TNT’s ‘Legends?’  Where would you like to see him land?
